The Tale of Ocarina

This project is an immersive VR experience about waking up in a beautiful underwater city with no memory of who you are. Through exploration, the viewer moves through bioluminescent forests, ancient ruins, and an aquatic civilization that has chosen to remain hidden beneath the surface. The experience centers on a quiet choice: stay in a peaceful, unknown world, or follow a distant beacon of light toward forgotten truth.

The story is driven primarily by environment, movement, and atmosphere, with minimal, reflective dialogue used only at key moments. Interactions are subtle and intentional, where choosing where to walk becomes a metaphor for comfort versus purpose.

The experience was built in Unity using a combination of free 3D assets and original models. I modeled fish and smaller environmental elements to support the world and its mood better, and focused on lighting, scale, and pacing to create a cohesive and immersive space. I wrote C# scripts to manage scene transitions, viewer movement, and character interactions, designing these systems to be unobtrusive and to allow the narrative to unfold through exploration rather than instruction.

I created this project to explore how VR can hold emotional tension without over-explaining, and how immersive spaces can invite reflection rather than demand attention. The Tale of Ocarina is designed for gallery-based VR, where viewers can slow down, feel present, and sit with uncertainty.
